Long time slot enthusiasts may be wondering why we’re taking a look at Aztec Warrior Princess, but it isn’t for nostalgia’s sake. Instead, the game received a touch up and was released again by Play’n GO, which works out just fine for us because we wanted to take a peek at it once more. It won’t be blowing many minds, though there are parts of it that we liked. The backdrop is interesting and we like the occasional insect that crawls out from the thick canopy to wander along the stones. Something we’re a bit less enthusiastic about is the presence of poker card icons on the playing field, which tends to ruin our immersion just a little bit. If you can look past this, however, this Play’n GO release looks a lot better.

And much like other games from the developer, as it comes off strong early, then enter a cold period before picking up again. This is paired with frequent small wins which don’t really do that much to change your balance, so you’ll always be bleeding money in the long run until you run into a special feature that will boost you back up. We quite like this, as it breaks up the monotony of things, even if your wins can feel hollow – at least they don’t feel like cash grabs like so many recent slots.

There’s no progressive jackpot to work towards and after playing a few games with awful paytables, we’re glad to see Play’n GO aren’t going down that path just yet. The lower end is still iffy, but it should be – that’s why it is the lower end. Meanwhile, four and five of a kind wins are a lot more valuable and the fixed jackpot that equals to a 5,000x increase means that players have something mouth-watering to look towards as they spin the reels. In the grand scheme of things, our larger wins ended up around a 60x increase in budget, but at least the game feels like you could actually score the big wins.
You can adjust the amount of active paylines, coins and the value of said coins. This means Aztec Warrior Princess can be played for $0.01 up to $25, which should help make the slot a lot more affordable to people who are trying to pinch their pennies. While we’d recommend at least playing with all the paylines up, the game is equally playable at max bet and at the lowest.

There really isn’t much to talk about with the symbols themselves. They’re well done, but they don’t pique your curiosity, and there’s no animation when you score a win with them. Alongside boring gambling card icons, you will find frogs, leopards, eagles and dragons, golden masks, skulls with gems for eyes, and the warrior princess, both the most frequent and most rare symbol the game has to offer.
This Play’n GO release uses the intimidating female Aztec as a Scatter, awarding small cash wins and also activating the free spins. And while you will see a lot of the warrior princess on the reels, it will usually only be one or two symbols, and we haven’t managed to score the extra rounds even once.

There are also the skulls, where three or more can activate the special feature. You pick three skulls with different colours and the colours decide how much you win. You can go up to 1,000x with this, so while it isn’t as great as scoring five Wilds, it is still a great win if you can max it out.
